transformation (mathematics)

In mathematics, the word transformation is often used a synonym for function, but it is sometimes used instead to describe a specific set of functions.

The more narrow definition of a transformation is that it is a function that operates on vectors.

Transformations preserve algebraic structures when applied. Examples of transformations include: linear and affine transformation, rotation, reflection and translation.
